Costa Rica Honeymoon!
About a month after our wedding, Gil and I flew to Guanacaste, Costa Rica for our honeymoon. We stayed in a gorgeous condo on Flamingo Beach, which is on Costa Rica's Pacific side. It was so perfect and so relaxing. More vacation time please!
Our condo was only steps from the pool and the beach. And we were also one of the only couples there. Because the condos are newly renovated, most of them are for sale and are still vacant. We pretty much had the beach to ourselves.
The infinity pool was amazing, and it was just the right temperature. Gil and I got fried on our first day.
We ate at the cutest little restaurants. Our favorite was one called Maries, where we ate about five times. Luckily, the waiters at Maries are very honest. Me, being a ditz, left my purse there one night and didn't realize it until the next day. WOW, I know. Not one thing was missing from my purse. I was sooo grateful!
Playing on the beach.
This was the view from our downstairs patio.
We drove to Liberia one day to a hotel/resort called Hotel Guachepelin. There, you can do a ton of outdoor activities like volcano hiking, tubing, horseback riding, or the zip line. First, we hiked up a portion of the volcano Rincon de la Vieja. This is a small volcano that we saw.
Gil and I were so sad to leave. Six days just wasn't enough!
This was the sunset on our last night.

You know you're newly married when...
- everything in your kitchen is brand new, from the microwave to the spatulas, thanks to all of the wonderful wedding gift givers.
- you get in little spats about how to organize all of the furniture in your new place.
- you're coming to terms with the fact that it's now "our" money.
- you want to be around each other every second because you're still in the honeymooner's stage.
- your weekends consist of trips to Target, Home Depot, Sam's Club, etc. to make your place feel as homey as possible.
- you are stressed to the max about having to change your name so many times and in so many places.
- you can look at your wedding pictures over and over again and never get tired of it.
- you still introduce yourself by your maiden name (and watch as your husband rolls his eyes at you).
- you're discovering all sorts of funny habits your spouse possesses, from his OCD tendencies to his picky eating (love you Gil).
- you have past due thank you cards that need to be sent out ASAP!

The Big Day!

Time: 4:30 p.m.
Location: Cococa Beach, Florida
Venue: The Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront
Our wedding was absolutely perfect! So many family members and friends came out to see us get married, which meant so much to us. It was definitely the happiest day of our lives! And it didn't rain a drop like it was supposed to. We were truly blessed!
We hadn't originally planned to get married on the beach in Florida. Our original plan was to get married in my home town of Wimberley on May 9th. Those plans quickly changed when we found out in late January that we're expecting! We may be on the fast track, but there's a reason for everything. Gil and I couldn't be more excited about our baby news.
We decided that our May wedding plans just wouldn't work out. First of all, I'd be the size of a beach ball. Secondly, I wasn't too sure that the wedding stress would be good for baby Whitlock. Time for plan B!
We decided a beach wedding in Gil's hometown of Cocoa Beach would be perfect. I had always wanted to get married on the beach. It's so romantic. And for Valentine's Day to fall on a Saturday -- how perfect! Gil immediatley took on the role of my wedding coordinator and began calling venues, florists, cake shops, and photographers. We pretty much planned our entire wedding in a weekend. But we pulled it off! Gil's sister Christina helped us so much by creating and maintaining an online guest list. Both of our families were so supportive and "go with the flow." It couldn't have gone any better. I'm honestly so glad that things worked out the way they did. I couldn't have imagined or asked for a more wonderful wedding!

At the SWA Christmas party

I said YES!
Like we both always say, "When you know, you know." Only a few months later on December 20th, we got engaged! Gil becoming my fiance was the best Christmas present in the world -- my gorgeous ring was a bonus! :)
Here's how it happened...Gil and I decided to have an early Christmas together because we thought we would be apart for our first Christmas. So Gil bought a beautiful tree, and we set it up in the living room in my apartment. We started putting gifts for each other under the tree about two weeks prior to Christmas. It was fun to see our pile of presents growing every day.
On December 20th, little did I know that my ring had just arrived in the mail, so Gil wanted to do our Christmas celebration that night. It was funny because Gil and my dad were moving furniture all day for my sister, so at one point, Gil handed me the newly wrapped box (with my ring inside) and told me to hold onto it until we had time to put it under the tree. I was wondering why he spazed out when I accidently left the box on the bumper of my dad's truck when we all went inside to move stuff! Haha...I still feel horrible that I almost gave him a heart attack!
The night of December 20th was perfect! After moving all day, Gil took me to get a manicure. I didn't know at the time why he was so insistent that I get one. Of course it was because he knew I would be showing off the pretty ring on my hand. :)

Later on, we started opening presents. My last gift was the little box I had been holding earlier that day. When I opened it, the box said Rolex! I was sure that I was getting a watch because Gil had been taking me to look at fancy watches all December. He tricked me! I opened up the watch box, and there sat the most beautiful ring! He had cut a slot for my ring. I was so shocked! I was shaking! Gil then got on one knee and proposed. I honestly don't remember saying yes, but my reaction said it all. It was such a wonderful day! To top it all off, Gil took me to the restaurant where we first met, Macaroni Grill.
My ring!

Us as an engaged couple on December 20th!

Back to the beginning...
Gil and I met on Match.com in June 2008. We were a 100% match. I'm not sure what the basis for compatibility is on Match.com, but to be a 100% match is pretty rare. Gil still says that he doesn't remember us being a perfect match, but I do. I guess it's a girl thing. We exchanged a few e-mails, but nothing ever came of it. Gil insists that I blew him off, which is of course entirely untrue! Lol...I ended up cancelling my account before we ever made plans to go on a date. At the end of June, I found Gil on Facebook, and he asked me on a date. Finally!
On July 10th, we met for the first time at Macaroni Grill in Addison, Texas, and the rest is history. We dated exclusively for a month or so and then made our relationship official in September 2008. The picture below is our first picture taken together.
